What began as a goal to promote youth soccer in the Greater Harrisburg Area by providing a local soccer tournament for boys has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 19 years.  In our first year we hosted just two boys’ age groups (U13 and U14) with a total of 16 teams participating.  We increased to 56 boys’ teams the second year and 76 in our third year.  In year four the Redland Summer Classic added our first girls’ age groups.  Our tournament continued to grow to 170 teams and we began to offer two levels of play to provide a better and more competitive experience for all teams participating.  In the past participating teams represented 11 state associations, Canada and England. 

In recent years we reduced our tournament size to host 130 to 140 teams annually.  This was done to keep playing fields in reasonable proximity to each other and to conclude our preliminary games on Sunday morning and our championship games earlier on Sunday afternoon.  By concluding the bulk of our tournament earlier on Sunday, visiting teams have an opportunity to enjoy local attractions or have an earlier return trip home.

The tournament has been invaluable to the Redland Soccer Club.  The proceeds from this tournament enabled us to purchase 29 acres of land and gradually develop our Redland Soccer Complex.  We have a club house and concession stand and have seven full size fields at one site in use.  If you are not familiar with our soccer complex, the Redland Soccer Club is located approximately one mile west off of Exit 34 of Interstate 83, midway between Harrisburg and York Pa.
